The Doctor is In
[Dr. Price's office is just about exactly what you'd expect from a psychologist's office in the year 6972. There's a large chair next to an equally large and comfortable couch, and a coffee table within reach of both. On the other side of the room, there's large desk with some kind of a computer screen made of glowing light. The metal walls in here have been covered with dark wood paneling, and the lighting is warm and comforting.
There is one of those shitty brass-handled green plastic-shaded lamps on the desk. Why is it there? Aesthetic, apparently.
The desk is flanked by bookshelves filled with nonfiction. There's of course the DSM-40, right next to the DSM-238. Both editions look about the same age, curiously enough. There are also various other books on psychology, psychiatry, and... Artificial Intelligence?
Huh. Everyone's gotta have some hobbies.
There's a long counter with various kinds of tea and a kettle that sits on the counter next to a button, as well as a small sink expressly for washing dishes. There's also a door in the back of the room that probably leads to Dr. Price's personal quarters (good fucking luck).]
((OOC: This is where you can tag if you want to chat with Dr. Price one on one. Y'all know how office hours work by now.))

so that the mod can justify running it when he gets home from work, so he has his whole morning free.]Come in.
[The office is warm with the smell of coffee, and there's a steaming mug on his desk that he picks up and carries with him as he gets up from his chair to come around to the front of the desk.]
Good morning, Mr. Oda.

Oda takes a look around the room - it only takes a brief glance for him to register the general layout - before sitting down on the couch.]
There are a couple of things I wanted to talk about in private. The first one is a jurisdiction question.
I'm not going to argue that I, personally, shouldn't be in prison. I know I should.
[He's committed more than enough crimes for that.]
But as far as I know, none of my crimes have crossed interplanetary borders. I'm sure the prisons in Yokohama would be happy to keep me for a long time.

Would you like some coffee, Mr. Oda?
[As he moves over to what is obviously a futuristic coffee maker.]
The purpose of this penitentiary is to provide a unique opportunity outside of the boundaries of normal judicial proceedings.
no subject
[It's probably not poisoned, and if it is, then they've certainly learned something about their captor.]
What about this penitentiary specifically makes it more of an opportunity than ones I'm used to seeing?
[Being in space isn't specifically more therapeutic, he thinks.]
no subject
Specifically, it's in the opportunity to make connections with your fellow inmates. You can't deny that there are some colorful characters among you.
I can't believe I know how Oda canonly likes his coffee
[Not that he'll complain too much if those aren't available, but he doesn't usually take his coffee black.]
My fellow inmates are very interesting, and I would like to get to know them better. But most people are interesting in some way, if you pay attention.
[Oda is a person who cares about people's lives, and is willing to listen to anyone talk about themselves.]
no subject
[He sets down his own mug and gets up to get sugar and creamer, setting it on the coffee table.]
You and I are of a similar mind in that respect. I wouldn't be a psychologist if I didn't find people fascinating.
no subject
[Oda adds some sugar and creamer to his coffee before taking a sip.]
Is that why you decided to take the job? I've never met anyone who offered therapy before this.
[Therapy isn't covered under the mafia health care plan even at higher levels than Oda is, he thinks. Dazai would have scared all those therapists off by now if it ever was.]
no subject
[He takes a sip of his coffee but for the most part just casually cradles it in his hands.]
Interesting. Do they have psychologists in your world, and you've never had the opportunity to take advantage of their service?
no subject
[Oda takes another sip of coffee.]
When I was an assassin, I used to stay in prisons for a while before I escaped. If they had bedding and decent air conditioning, it wasn't much worse being in there than living outside.
no subject
[If he's surprised by the next remark, he doesn't show it.]
Even in the 26th century, it can be an appealing alternative for those with nowhere to go. I hope that you're finding the accommodations here a step above "bedding and decent air conditioning," at least.
no subject
[So he can't just stay here for as long as they don't execute him. He doesn't want to leave his children alone, or leave Dazai and Ango with no idea where he's gone.]

[He can be patient, at least for a little while longer.]

[He probably already is.]

Was there anything else you wanted to discuss?
