The Doctor is In

[Dr. Price's office is just about exactly what you'd expect from a psychologist's office in the year 6972. There's a large chair next to an equally large and comfortable couch, and a coffee table within reach of both. On the other side of the room, there's large desk with some kind of a computer screen made of glowing light. The metal walls in here have been covered with dark wood paneling, and the lighting is warm and comforting.

There is one of those shitty brass-handled green plastic-shaded lamps on the desk. Why is it there? Aesthetic, apparently.

The desk is flanked by bookshelves filled with nonfiction. There's of course the DSM-40, right next to the DSM-238. Both editions look about the same age, curiously enough. There are also various other books on psychology, psychiatry, and... Artificial Intelligence?

Huh. Everyone's gotta have some hobbies.

There's a long counter with various kinds of tea and a kettle that sits on the counter next to a button, as well as a small sink expressly for washing dishes. There's also a door in the back of the room that probably leads to Dr. Price's personal quarters (good fucking luck).]

There are psychologists, but assassins don't get health care and the mafia's equivalent of health care doesn't offer therapy. So I've never experienced it.

When I was an assassin, I used to stay in prisons for a while before I escaped. If they had bedding and decent air conditioning, it wasn't much worse being in there than living outside.

You would be surprised at the jarring lack of mental health practitioners some worlds have.

Even in the 26th century, it can be an appealing alternative for those with nowhere to go. I hope that you're finding the accommodations here a step above "bedding and decent air conditioning," at least.

The accommodations are better, but things are different for me now. I have people to return to.

[So he can't just stay here for as long as they don't execute him. He doesn't want to leave his children alone, or leave Dazai and Ango with no idea where he's gone.]

I understand. I have sent a recommendation to my superiors regarding your request to send a message to your children, but I'm still waiting on a reply.

[He can be patient, at least for a little while longer.]

As soon as I know, I will. There may be only a limited window when the connection can be established, so make sure that you have your message prepared.
